Lacy’s Story

Every unique dress that comes from Olive Mae starts with our creator, Lacy Gutierrez. Growing up, almost everything in Lacy’s family was sewn by her great grandmother, grandmother, m other, two older sisters or herself. Lacy has been sewing since she was a little girl, in fact, her first memory is sitting on her mother’s lap while she was sewing. One of Lacy’s first creations was when she made a blanket for her sick doll so it would have something special to make it feel better. Her growing interest in sewing even got her in trouble on occasion, like the time she cut up new silk to try to make a lambchop doll while her mother was sleeping. Lacy’s talent progressed because she grew up making her clothes. When her own children were born, she began making clothes for them as well. Her friends caught onto her skill and begun asking Lacy to sew clothes for their children. Lacy always dreamed of creating and selling fancy dresses, and now her dream is a reality. With her dedication and hard work, what started as a few outfits for herself and her friends eventually grew into a business. To honor her grandmother, Olive, Lacy chose the name Olive Mae to sell her clothing to other families and little girls. As a busy, working mom, Lacy was especially determined to create clothes that not only captured the innocence and sweetness of little girls, but clothes that could stand up to the wear and tear of everyday life! Now every girl that walks into Olive Mae can leave feeling special with one of Lacy’s handmade, original pieces.
