In 2010, there were twenty million students registered in higher education: twenty million minds (20MM). Dr. Gary Michelson and his wife, Alya Michelson, launched Michelson 20MM with those numbers in mind in order to create change in the education sector. This initiative is specifically geared toward providing affordable access to textbooks, with the goal of decreasing expenses for students’ basic learning materials. Since its founding, the foundation has been leading the effort to improve educational access by partnering with similarly aligned educational technology companies, schools, and more. The foundation has also created a startup accelerator, Michelson Runway, that fosters growth for entrepreneurs who may not otherwise have the opportunity to grow their businesses. Michelson 20MM is devoted to reducing financial barriers for students so that more people can get into schools, succeed in class, and complete their college degrees.
