Approximately 200,000 people a year are injured in accidents involving large commercial trucks, and about 5,000 of these accidents result in fatalities. Nine out of ten truck accidents are the result of driver negligence and can be preventable. Operators of large commercial trucks must have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and the rules and regulations regarding the safe operation of these vehicles are different from those relating to non-commercial driver’s licenses. The complicated nature of these accident claims is sometimes due to the number of parties involved. Different companies can own the tractor, trailer, container and cargo of the vehicle and may be owned, operated and registered by out-of-state corporations.
