Our Interventional Radiologists (IRs) specialize in minimally invasive procedures that treat uterine fibroids. Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) is a minimally invasive procedure performed by an IR to treat uterine fibroids. The Fibroid treatment in Houston is performed entirely through an IV. Using X-Rays, Dr. Maneevese identifies the blood vessels that feed the fibroids, and through careful maneuvers will inject microscopic beads that plug up the artery causing the fibroid to disintegrate. UFE allows patients to avoid surgery, preserves their uterus, controls symptoms, and improves the quality of life. Approximately nine out of 10 women who undergo uterine fibroid embolization will experience significant improvement, or their symptoms will go away completely. This is an outpatient procedure and our patients are able to go back to their homes to rest the same day!
