OTHER DOUGLAS COUNTY ISSUES/TOPICS OF INTEREST

  • On Tuesday, July 11, the Douglas County Board adopted its proposed Fiscal Year 2023/24 Budget (Douglas County’s FY2023/24 Proposed Budget Summary).

    By September 30, 2023, all political subdivisions with boundaries in Douglas County have to submit their adopted 2023/24 budgets (which includes their property tax requirements for the budget) to the Douglas County Clerk and the Nebraska Auditor of Public Accounts.

    Douglas County’s annual financial reports are available on this website, as well as a list of vendors that Douglas County is paying each week.

  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Douglas County, Nebraska has received the following amounts of federal money:

    • $166,134,258 through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES).
    • $10,834,053 through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERA)
      • $7,633,186 in ERA1
      • $3,200,867 in ERA2
    • $110,973,572 through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA)

    The Douglas County Health Department (DCHD) posts COVID-19 updates through its website, Facebook page, and Twitter account.

  • Douglas County is building a justice center at the old MUD site (between 17th & 18th Streets, and Harney & Howard Streets), and this building will house juvenile justice services, courtrooms, office space for the Douglas County Attorney’s Office and Douglas County Public Defender’s Office, and Douglas County’s Youth Center will relocate to this building once construction is complete. 

    Information regarding the justice center, as well as reports related to juvenile justice presented at Douglas County board and committee meetings, are available on the Juvenile Justice / Justice Center – Related Items web page.  

 

OTHER INFORMATION 

    • Issue marriage licenses.
    • Serve as the official record-keeper of the Douglas County Board.
    • Issue liquor and tobacco licenses to establishments in Douglas County, but only to those establishments located outside of the county’s cities and villages.
    • Maintain Douglas County financial accounting records.
    • Audit all payments made by Douglas County.
    • Process payroll for all Douglas County employees.
    • Record military discharge documents.

  • Getting a Drivers' License or Identification Card is a function of the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles. For more information regarding Driver's License or Identification Cards, go to http://www.dmv.state.ne.us
