This spring, the University of New Haven TV Production class partnered with the League to create three Public Service Announcements ahead of the 2024 Elections covering early voting in Connecticut, spotting disinformation and misinformation, and the reasons why young adults vote.

The 2024 short legislative session was a difficult one. The fiscal guardrails adopted by the General Assembly in the previous session prevented the passage of many bills with fiscal notes. Among the gains we made, the legislature allocated $1 million for Early Voting implementation, banned foreign contributions on state ballot referenda, and increased transparency in elections and protections for election workers.

Right now, there are just under 3 million people in Connecticut who are eligible to vote. Of that number, only 2.1 million were registered at the time of last year’s municipal elections, and only 709,000 registered voters actually cast ballots, according to data from the Secretary of the State’s Office. To be clear – that’s a turnout rate of around 33%.
