News for those of you who like to do your own trademark searches at the USPTO's site. On November 30, the USPTO is replacing its old TESS trademark search system with a more advanced, yet glitchy, new search tool. As a slightly funny / sad aside, this rushed rollout is happening because the one soon-retiring IT employee able to maintain TESS's outdated backend system is retiring. Although powerful and more user-friendly in many ways, the beta replacement still suffers reliability problems and lacks some TESS functions. The USPTO is working to fix issues raised through user feedback. Users will need to learn updated search syntax, phonetic matching, and new field tags to master it. This linked article is a great overview of the situation and how to use the new tool. #trademarks #USPTO https://lnkd.in/eBgWD_yh
