Therapy is a safe space for self discovery, healing of trauma, and personal growth.
About us
Taproot Therapy is a collective of therapists who share resources to create a more efficient way to offer services for self discovery, growth and healing in Birmingham. We offer the most cutting edge neuroscientifically backed treatment for PTSD, trauma and anxiety. We also believe that therapy is about more than reducing symptoms. Taproot Therapy Collective does not use manualized therapy models or formulas for treatment. Instead we try to personally understand each patient and help reconnect them with the journey that their life calls them toward. We make no presumptions about who you are or where you are going. The clinicians at Taproot Therapy only want to help you find yourself and to find the way to where your journey calls you. In addition to providing individual, group and family therapy; Taproot Therapy offers educational classes for students and practitioners of psychotherapy. We also offer classes and talks by business and civic leaders as well as creators in the community. Taproot Therapy offers many other opportunities for community involvement and personal growth. We encourage you to sign up for our mailing list for the latest offerings. GetTherapyBirmingham.com

Champion of Clinician Mental Health | Amplifying Voices For Systems Change | Community For Wounded Healers
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has its strengths, particularly in addressing specific patterns between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. However, it falls short when it comes to the deeper emotional processing that many clients need for personal growth. According to Elaine Aron's research (2010), around 50% of patients who seek psychotherapy and counseling are Highly Sensitive People (HSPs). While CBT can be helpful in addressing surface-level symptoms, it often doesn't delve into the root causes of emotional struggles or provide the necessary tools for understanding one's innate traits, their nervous system, building healthier relationships with self and others, or navigating complex emotional landscapes. If all clinicians limit themselves (or allow the system to limit them) to learning and delivering only CBT or similar structured approaches, they risk missing out on fundamental aspects of therapeutic work that clients are increasingly needing. Have a read of my latest Substack piece on the necessity of healing beyond this dogmatic thinking about CBT as a "gold standard" that's been largely delivered to us through completely different systemic agendas than quality patient care. Stay tuned for another article later this week on developing a deeper understanding of the HSP population. #mentalhealth #mentalhealthishealth #systemschange #managedcare #clinicianadvocate #cbt #dbt #act #tfcbt
