World Leader in Nuclear and Chemical Process Safety
About us
Fauske & Associates (FAI) is a world leader in nuclear, industrial and chemical process safety. Founded in 1980 by Dr. Hans Fauske, Dr. Michael Grolmes, and Dr. Robert Henry, FAI became an affiliate of Westinghouse Electric Company LLC. in 1986. FAI assumed early leadership roles in the acclaimed DIERS program for AIChE and the IDCOR program for the nuclear power industries. These activities led to state-of-the-art methodology and laboratory tools for characterizing chemical systems and computer models for analyzing severe accidents in commercial nuclear power plants used worldwide. Recognized worldwide for phenomenological modeling related to the prevention and accommodation of chemical and nuclear power accidents, FAI also provides advanced training and research in physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering, computer science and other fields. FAI is ISO- 17025/IEC, ISO-9001 and TickIT certified. FAI is also recognized for conducting comprehensive plant evaluations. FAI’s Nuclear Systems Group helps its customers enhance the availability and reliability of their operating plants while maintaining regulatory compliance, extending plant life and reducing operation and maintenance costs. With regard to industrial safety, FAI is a leader in the growing dust explosivity/combustibility and process safety areas. In addition to parts and laboratory testing, on-site consulting services are becoming a key customer request for FAI.

Enormous volumes of flammable and combustible materials are used every day in all kinds of processes, requiring constant attention and reliable data to minimize the risk of industrial accidents. At Fauske & Associates (FAI) we help you assess your risk exposure by characterizing the flammability potential of your combustible vapors or gases. Below you can find a list of the most common tests that we perform for flammability hazard characterization and the standards by which FAI can perform these tests. We offer everything from flash point testing to customized testing to best match your actual process conditions and thereby better gauge your risk. Adiabatic calorimetry is a standard technique for simulating upset scenarios in a chemical process. The intent is to develop the critical safety data to prevent or mitigate the effects of a reactive chemical accident. Simulations are done at bench scale to directly measure the consequences of a runaway reaction before it can occur at process scale. Directly scalable adiabatic data are obtained from specialized low thermal-inertia instruments such as the Vent Sizing Package 2 (VSP2) or Advanced Reactive System Screening Tool (ARSST), avoiding the complexity and uncertainty associated with building a kinetic model from high thermal-inertia ARC data.
