Ironically I am an executive-level Digital Strategist with a serious vision disability. Ensuring that those with vision loss and vision disabilities can work in a total technology-driven environment is my passion and career mission as leader who is inspired to drive positive impact. Defining and developing a personal brand that provides value and demand in an industry is the only way you can build a sustainable business. This is why personal brand business planning must follow the same methodology as traditional business plans. Your personal brand pricing and demand, audience, location , associated products/services, competition, financial outlook must all be written out and proven before a profitable business from a personal brand can be grown. The personal brand influence and reputation must be constantly measured and optimized through effective content marketing , event marketing, advertising and PR. Building a business around the personal brand means the brand itself is the monetary value.

What are the most important tips for building your personal brand in a niche industry?
First you need to make sure this is the industry you want to focus your personal brand in so that it yields the highest returns. Next, you need to focus your skills, experience, language, recommendations, groups, associations, events/conferences, awards, continuing education all around this niche industry and by positioning yourself at the highest level of influence. You absolutely must understand your audience. Personal branding has everything to do with effective communication and adding value overtime. Know who you are talking to, how they want to be communicated with and what content is of the most interest to them. Make yourself invaluable in this community.

What are the most effective cover letter strategies to complement your resume?
This is where you sell yourself in a way that completely emphasizes why you are the best fit for the position. In this, you must fully understand the role and responsibilities. Doing your homework before writing a cover letter is key. Depending on your professional experience level (I work mainly with executives at the highest levels who are moving to their final career stage pre Board positions) your language and brevity is critically important.
