Choosing your wedding flowers

By Wipfli LLP

07/13/2010 So, you have chosen the perfect groom and found a dress you look drop dead gorgeous in. You have booked a stunning venue and now you need to decide which flowers to choose, how do you do that?

Your wedding flowers should take into account the details and designs of the bridal dresses, reflect the look of the venue and your style as a couple. Like you would with fashion, look at the latest trends for ideas and inspiration, then start to choose designs you like best and that suit you. Whether the wedding style you choose is vintage, contemporary, garden, beachy or any other, the most important thing is all your wedding planning will result in a look you love and be a reflection of you both.

Choose a florist you can build a friendly relationship with, one who is able to do as much or as little as you need. A good florist will be able to give you lots of wonderful suggestions if you're not sure what you want or enhance your original ideas if you had something specific in mind. They will be able to design and create flowers for your day that will add a professional touch to delight you and your guests.

Some of our favourite trends;
Romantic shower bouquets - these don't have to be as big as Princess Diana's, you can have the lightest trail with a few small flowers.

Soft vintage peachy colours - think old fashioned scented gardens filled with delicious rambling roses. These look pretty in mixed shades delicately arranged in cut glass vases, with lace table cloth overlays and a mix of candle votives.

Orchids - an elegant favourite, there is a huge variety of sizes and colours and they can be used in many designs. For a simple bouquet carry a few stems tied and finished with a stunning brooch-maybe your ‘something borrowed’ from family or a best friend.

Single flowers - for a designer look, use masses of a single flower on its own in
arrangements or vases, and tied into neat hand-ties for bouquets. Gypsophila or hydrangea are perfect for this look.

Interesting natural textures - garden flowers, succulents, ferns, berries, shells or anything that can be worked into a bouquet or arrangement. This can be a lovely way of including sentimental favourites within your flowers or reflecting the theme of your wedding.

Flowers in your hair - either a big dramatic bloom, or small delicate grouping is a great way to make you and your bridesmaids look special.
